O Pestilence!
Pardon the absence; it's not very easy to type when your fingers are covered in your son's mucus. There has been much sickness in the house of late. (Why? Because that's what January is for in our family). First I was ministering to Lowell, then I had to take to my bed and now the damn paterfamilias is down for the count as well. (If you're wondering his head hurts. A lot). Lowell had a low-grade fever for most of last week so there was no enjoyment to be had of the spooky record warm temperatures. (See fig 1. Actually that day it was raining but he was insisting that we go outside right that minute. Those boots are made for kicking soccer balls apparantly). Poor dear. Now that he is better it's 30 degrees out. Mwah mwah mwahhhh. (p.s. to rest of the world: that's -1 Celsius).
On a positive note our bookshelves are finally built. This means that the enormous pile of boxes that dominated our living room for the last seven months are finally unpacked. I am overjoyed. Do you want to see a picture? Okay!
Are they not lovely? I want to lick them from stem to stern, that's how much I love them. Our friend Chris built them and they are perfect. (Do you like the shot? I styled it myself. I especially like the insouciant shopvac hose peeking into the frame).
Chris also provided our family with another moment of joy. He recently bought a mini schoolbus to cart around his carpentry stuff. He parked it in our driveway and Lowell talked of little else the entire day. Before he left we let Lowell live out his schoolbus kid fantasy. He was so psyched (See fig 3. Notice also the racing stripe of the original yellow that Chris kept and then painted with tiger markings. So very rad). Matthew also got to live out his schoolbus driver fantasy. He kept turning around and telling all the two by fours to keep it down back there or he was going to write them up.

So nice. I gots me some serious built-in bookshelf envy right now. Gotta go.

I covet those bookshelves.
I also love Lowell's striped pj's/red rain boots ensemble. He appears to be a boy after my own heart.

Those are drool-worthy built-ins.
Also? Insouciant? Totally made my day.

If I weren't married, I would get down on one knee and propose to those bookshelves...and then maybe do other, unprintable things to them, once you'd given your blessing. Hope everybody in your family feels better soon!

(Okay, that was a leedle joke, but I'm really coveting the beamed ceilings. Your house is apparently sponge-worthy.)
